UechiRyu Zankai Dojo, Nagahama Okinawa Japan

The Okinawa KarateDo UechiRyu Zankyokai is dedicated to the practice and
preservation of Uechi Kanbun Sensei's original Pre-WW2 performance style and
philosophy of UechiRyu KarateDo.

The Founder of the UechiRyu Zankyokai was Toyama Seiko Sensei, Hanshi Judan,
last active student of UechiRyu Founder Uechi Kanbun Sensei. The current President and Owner of the Zankyokai is Toyama Naomi Sensei, Hanshi Kyudan.

The senior foreign representative for the Zankyokai is G. Seizan Breyette,
Hanshi Kyudan. Seizan is a permanent resident of Japan and owns the
Nagahama Dojo in Yomitan.

Seizan's wife Sumako Matsuda-Breyette, Godan, assists in Seizan's classes.

Seizan and Sumako have their home on the 2nd floor of the building. The dojo, guestroom, and lounge are on the ground floor (below the road level in the photo).

The Nagahama Dojo regularly hosts visiting foreign students who stay in the dojo guest room. Seizan is responsible for training all foreign Zankyokai students. Others are welcome to visit and chat, however we can only host and train students who are Zankyokai, or whose intention is to become a Zankyokai member.

Classes at the Nagahama Dojo are:

Monday and Wednesday 7-9PM
Tuesday and Thursday 7-8:30PM
Saturday 1-2:30PM

Class times may be extended if there are guest students.

Yoga Class is on Saturday 10:30AM-12 Noon (Sumako’s class)

During the Spring Break (late March through early April) Seizan visits foreign branch dojo. During the school year, Seizan teaches English in the local Japanese school system.

Sumako works on Kadena Air Force Base as Chief of Civilian Security Forces. She teaches Yoga at the Yomitan Health and Wellness Center (collocated with the Yomitan Village Offices), the Tokeshi Community Center, and at the Nagahama Dojo. She received certification in Therapeutic Thai Massage in Chiangmai Thailand. She also visited India with her Yoga students to study Bharatanatyam Dance and to assist at the Chennai Dojo.

Zankyokai Summer Training

I wish to coordinate with my foreign Zankyokai students to congregate on Okinawa during the summer vacation, with a focus on strengthening the Zankyokai by forging international friendships through training.

Every August the Nagahama Dojo hosts a Summer Training Sabbatical for Zankyokai students and those who intend to register with the Zankyokai. If you are not a Zankyokai member but intend to register, please begin a correspondence with me as soon as possible.

Of course, not everyone can make it to Okinawa during August. Visitors are welcome year-round except when I am off-island during my spring break visiting foreign branch dojo.

If you wish to visit or study at the Nagahama Dojo, please contact me for information. If you are already a UechiRyu student, please check with me regarding protocols.
